Canadian Champions Crowned at the 2008 Canadian Finals
Edmonton, Alta. - The 2008 Canadian Finals Rodeo wrapped up Sunday, with the new Canadian Champions crowned in front of 15,422 fans.
Bareback rider Kyle Bowers is the new Canadian champ. The Brooks, Alta. cowboy also won Sunday’s go-round buckle, scoring an 88 on Kesler Rodeo Co.’s Street Dance.
Steer wrestling was decided Saturday night, with Cody Cassidy, Donalda, Alta., earning the CFR championship. Clayton Moore, Pouce Coupe, B.C. won the Sunday performance, clocking in at 3.5 seconds.
Team ropers Murray Linthicum, Glentworth, Sask., and Dwight Wigemyr, Brooks, Alta. won the Canadian championship. Oregon cowboys Mike and Brandon Beers won the go-round with a time of 3.8 seconds.
Saddle bronc rider Dustin Hausauer, Dickinson, N.D. won the Canadian championship. Rod Hays won the go-round with 87.5 aboard Calgary Stampede’s Knife Money.
Tyson Durfey, Colbert, Wash., is the new tie-down roping champion for 2008. He also claimed that title back in 2006. Nathan Baldwin, Blackfoot, Ida. won the go-round with a time of 7.6 seconds.
Ladies barrel racer Lisa Lockhart, Oelrichs, S.D. is the new Canadian champ, also winning the performance with a time of 15.05 seconds.
Black Diamond, Alta. cowboy, Tyler Thomson, is the 2008 CFR bull riding champ.
Thomson also won the go-round, scoring 87.5 on board Big Stone Rodeo’s Bull of the Year, Spoon Full of Sugar.
Peters and Sons’ Miss Congeniality was named Saddle Bronc Horse of the CFR.
Calgary Stampede’s Grated Coconut is Bareback Horse of the CFR. Bull of the CFR went to Vold Rodeo’s Hot Wired.
